Collateral ligament

As ligamentum collaterale (Latin for side band ), or collateral ligament is known in the anatomy of a band which laterally spans a joint, and thus limits the mobility of the joint in the transversal plane. Collateral ligaments are formed on all limbs joints except the shoulder and hip. They always come in pairs on the inside ( medial collateral ligament Latin, German inner band ) and outside ( lateral collateral ligament Latin, German outer band ) of the joint before.
