Colleen Dewhurst
Colleen Dewhurst ( born June 3, 1924 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada; † August 22, 1991 in Salem, New York, United States) was a Canadian film and theater actress.
Life
Colleen Dewhurst was the only child of Fred Dewhurst, a hockey player of the Ottawa Rough Riders. Although she grew up in the United States from the age of 13, it is not known whether they ever took the U.S. citizenship. After studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, she made her debut in 1958 in an episode of the short-lived television series Decoy.
Dewhursts real passion was the theater. On Broadway she was in numerous theater productions on stage, including 1973 alongside Jason Robards in A Moon for the laden of Eugene O'Neill. As a film actress Dewhurst occurred predominantly on in television series and television movies. She embodied Her most famous role in 1990 shortly before her death as Marilla Cuthbert in three episodes of the Canadian TV series The Girl from the city ( Road to Avonlea ).
Private
Dewhurst was three times, with two men, married. In 1947 she married actor James Vickery, the marriage was divorced in 1960. In the same year she married the actor George C. Scott, with whom she had two sons, Alexander and Campbell Scott. After five years of marriage in 1965, the divorce. Scott and Dewhurst gave their marriage a second chance and got married on July 4, 1967 one more time. The divorce her second marriage took place on February 2, 1972, and Scott married a few months later, the actress Trish Van Devere.
Dewhurst died in 1991 from cervical cancer, two days before they would have the fourth Emmy of her career to receive.

Awards and honors
For her theater work Dewhurst won in 1961 and 1974 respectively a Tony Award and was nominated for six Tonys.
1986 and 1988 she won Best Supporting Actress on TV each have a Gemini Award for her role in Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel. 1989 won Dewhurst as well as Best Supporting Actress Genie Award for The relentless hunt ( Hitting Home, 1987). For her role as Marilla Cuthbert in The Girl from the city in 1990 she was nominated for two Emmy Awards and a Gemini Award.
The Northern Westchester Center for the Arts Theater in Mount Kisco, New York, was renamed on 20 October 2001 in her honor in Colleen Dewhurst theater.
