Collegium Canisianum

The Canisianum in Innsbruck is an international Theologenkonvikt the Roman Catholic Church. It is under the auspices of the Jesuit Order.

History

The Canisianum is named after St. Peter Canisius and was built in 1910/11 under rain P. Michael Hofmann. It replaced the Theologenkonvikt Nicolaihaus.

During the First World War it housed from 1915 to 1919, the students of the Germanicums of Rome. On November 21, 1938, was closed by the Nazis and could be re- opened in October 1945.

  • Andrij Ischtschak (1887-1941), professor at the Theological Academy in Lviv ( Lemberg), beatified in 2001
  • Antons Just's ( born 1931 ), founding bishop of the Diocese of Jelgava in Latvia
