Collesano

Collesano is a city in the province of Palermo in the Italian region Sicily, with 4078 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Collesano is located about 10 km from the Mediterranean coast, 69 km east of Palermo. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture.

The neighboring municipalities are Campo Felice di Roccella, Cerda, Gratteri Isnello, Lascari, Scillato and Termini Imerese.

History

The town developed around a Norman castle, which was built in the 12th century. The city Collesano was a fief of the Siracusa family, an old Spanish family that. Peter III of Aragon came to Sicily. Due to the succession came Collesano after marriage by Bernardo Siracusa with Hilaria Ventimiglia under the jurisdiction of this family. I Francesco Ventimiglia was the first Earl of Collesano.
