Collier County, Florida
The Collier County is a county located in the U.S. state of Florida. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Naples.
Geography
Collier County is located in southern Florida, bounded on the west and southwest by the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of 5970 km ². 5246 km ² of which are land, 724 km ² ( 12.13% ) water.
History
The district Collier County was established in 1923. The name goes back to Barron Collier, a land owner and developer.
Demography
According to the 2010 census, the then 321 520 inhabitants spread over 197 298 households. The population density was 61.3 inh. / Km ². 83.9 % of the population were white, 6.6% African American, 0.3% Native American and 1.1% Asian Americans. 6.2% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.9% in different ethnic groups. 25.9 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 43.0 % of all households lived in 24.7 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 67.0 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.38 persons and the average family size is 2.84 people.
21.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 20.2% were 20-39 years old, 24.7% were 40-59 years old and 33.7 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 47 years. 49.3 % of the population were male and 50.7 % female.
The average annual income was $ 56,876, while 13.5 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 69.37 % of the population spoke Spanish 22.57 % and 8.06% had a different mother tongue.
