Collonges-Fort-l'Écluse – Divonne-les-Bains line

The railway line Collonges- Divonne- les- Bains is a French branch line that connects Collonges with Divonne- les- Bains. The commissioning took place on 1 June 1899. From Divonne from the railway Nyon Crassier went on to Nyon in Switzerland.

History

The " Déclaration d' utilité publique " of a railway line from Collonges to Divonne took place on January 7, 1881. The concession was granted to the Compagnie des Chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM ) on August 2, 1886. The line was opened by the PLM on June 1, 1899.

The extension to Nyon went on 3 November 1905 in operation. The route to Nyon had to be stopped for any traffic on 29 September 1962 as the track was the construction of the A1 motorway in the way.

Passenger traffic to Divonne was set on 31 May 1980 and set up a parallel bus. In 1985, the last freight train wrong to Divonne. In 1998, the last train Gex reached.

In passenger X 3800 diesel railcars were used.

Operation and state today

The route is now operated only freight. In Chevry there is a transfer station for household waste from the municipalities of the Pays de Gex. The garbage is brought to Bellegarde, where it is then burned.

The track is still intact today except for a few places where tracks were removed after road renewals. Shortly before the Gex station, the bridge was built over the D1005.

Future

There are efforts of an association to reactivate the route and involve them in the Geneva S-Bahn. These should arise between Sergy and Meyrin a new line. The association founded this initiative, among other things, that the buses are very well utilized and there are often traffic jams in rush hour.
