Colocation centre

As a server housing (or Serverhoming, colocation, co-location ) is called the accommodation and grid connection of a client server in the data center of an Internet service provider ( ISP). That is, as opposed to hosting the hardware ( hardware) is not provided by provider, but supplied by the customer or tenant. The provider only provides infrastructural services.

Accommodation

The accommodation of the devices is carried out in specially designed for this purpose rooms (usually air conditioned, video surveillance and alarm system ). Gas extinguishing systems and poly-fused uninterruptible power supply (UPS) are usually standard equipment for large data centers. Complications occur with a server, so is usually around the clock qualified service personnel on site to resolve problems. Because of these measures may be assumed that a high availability of the server.

Advantage over a company "on the spot " is usually far higher data transfer rate that is guaranteed by a fiber optic network at this location.

The current price, the customer has to pay each unused kilowatt hour varies greatly from provider to provider and is times higher than the usual market price is usually between 1.5 and 2. The ISP as " current wholesale " does have a cost advantage in the purchase of energy, but will settle the costs for cooling the computer rooms on the consumed energy. The logic behind it is a quasi- linear relationship between energy consumption and heat generation of server systems.
