Colombo District

Colombo is a district in the Western Province in Sri Lanka. It has an area of 699 km ². Capital is Colombo.

History

The district was shared with the district reform of 31 August 1978. From parts of the former District Colombo emerged as the district Gampaha.

Management

The head of the district is entitled District Secretary. The district is further divided into thirteen divisions ( under a Division Secretary ). The cities and larger towns have their own government ( municipal council or municipal council ). There are 557 community councils ( Grama Niladharis ) for 808 villages in the entire district.
