Colonia Valdense is a city in the south of Uruguay.

Geography

Colonia Valdense is located on the territory of the Department of Colonia on the Route 1 The distance to the eastern state capital Montevideo is 121 km. To the northeast lies just ten kilometers from the neighboring town of Nueva Helvecia, while south of Chico Torino and the running between the towns of Arroyo Sarandi Grande are located. 67 km west of Colonia Valdense is Colonia del Sacramento, the capital of the department.

History

1856 emerged from a settlement of eleven from Villar Pellice in Piedmont originating the Waldensian immigrants, leads to the name of the place to Peter Valdes, the French founder of the Waldensians, back. Colonia Valdense was raised on January 6, 1951 by Law No. 11,742 in the status of " Pueblo ".

Infrastructure

The area around Colonia Valdense is one of the most developed in the south of the country and is primarily influenced by agricultural animal husbandry and milk production. In Colonia Valdense is the Liceo Daniel Armand UGON. The school was founded in 1888 and was the second ongoing academic institution in the interior at all. 14 km outside of Colonia Valdense located on the banks of the Río de la Plata between the places Los Pinos and Playa Fomento of belonging to the Waldensian Church Parque 17 de Febrero.

Population

In 2011 the city had 3,235 inhabitants, of which 1,496 male and 1,739 female.
