History

Once there were rumors that the financially strapped California Golden Seals want to relocate to Denver, it finally had the Kansas City Scouts, Colorado went into the previously untapped hockey market and renamed the Colorado Rockies.

Six years, the team should have his home in Denver, however, stand out without particularly in the NHL. Once the Rockies were able to reach the playoffs, a win was not in the final, however. With a mediocre squad, the team could not achieve very much. Some bright spots were caused by Barry Beck, who in his rookie season, a record for the most goals that were scored by an NHL rookie aufstellte. With Lanny McDonald had been a prominent player for about two years on the team, but the team was not alone lead to success.

The audience in Denver were good, but the financial situation of the team remained unstable, as the team changed hands twice in four years. Finally, John McMullen purchased the team in 1982 and announced that he had big plans for the franchise, but in New Jersey. Thus, the team was relocated in the summer of 1982 to New Jersey, where it was named New Jersey Devils. The team was able to record any particular success in the eighties, but in 1990 it was with one exception, always in the playoffs and were from the mid- nineties, several times the Stanley Cup win.

The last active player who had played in the Rockies was Joe Cirella, in 1996, his NHL career ended and switched to the Cologne Sharks - even in the very year when the Colorado Avalanche their first Stanley Cup win in their first season. From 1982 to 1995 played no NHL team in Colorado.

It exists since 1993 a baseball team of the MLB, which is also called the Colorado Rockies.
