Coltishall

Coltishall is a village ( population 1,405 ) on the River Bure, located in the west of Wroxham, Norfolk, within the Norfolk Broads.

Coltishall was mentioned in the Domesday Book. The village was for 250 years the malting industry. it was a center of the malting industry. Many Norfolk Wherrys ( merchant ships ) was built in the village. Between 1779 and 1912 it was possible riding the River Bure by boat to Aylsham. Nowadays, it is only possible to drive these to Coltishall.

The nearby Royal Air Force station at RAF Coltishall was an important military airfield during the Second World War, which was closed in December 2006. The building is now the HMP Bure, a prison.

The water mill on the river between Coltishall and Horstead was one of the most photographed mills in Norfolk until it burned down in 1963.
