Columbia County (Washington)
Columbia County is a county located in the state of Washington of the United States. Here 4,064 people live. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Dayton.
Geography
The county has an area of 2,262 square kilometers; of which 12 square kilometers (0.54 percent) of water.
History
The Columbia County was formed on November 11, 1875 from parts of Walla Walla County and named after the Columbia River.

According to the census of 2000, there were 4,064 people in the county. There were 1,687 households and 1,138 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.73 % White, 0.22 % African American, 0.96 % Native American, 0.42 % Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander residents from the and 2.73 % from other races groups; 1.89% were descended from two or more races. 6.35% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,687 households out of which 27.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.00 % were married couples living together, 8.50 % had a female householder with no husband. 32.50 % were non-families. 29.00% of all households and 13.00% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.89.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 23.90 % under the age of 18, 7.00 % from 18 to 24, 22.80% from 25 to 44 years, 27.70% between 45 and 64 years and 18.50% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 95.20 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.80 males.
The median income for a household was $ 33,500, and the median income for a family was $ 44,038. Males had a median income of $ 33,690, women $ 21,367. The per capita income was $ 17,374. 12.60% of the population and 8.60 % of families are below the poverty line. 15.90% of those under age 18 and 11.10% were 65 years or older.
