Columbus Circle

The Columbus Circle ( Columbus Circle ) is a larger place in New York City. It is located at the intersection of Broadway, Central Park West, Central Park South ( 59th Street ) and Eight Avenue at the southwest corner of Central Park in Manhattan.

The roundabout was designed by William Phelps Eno, a businessman who is known for a variety of inventions of road safety. The course was part of Frederick Law Olmsted's vision of a park, which included a circular space at its input to Eighth Avenue. The construction was completed in 1905.

Then as now, the Columbus Circle is a major transportation hub. Buses M5, M7, M10, M20, and M104 hold them in place, and the lines A, B, C, D and 1 of the New York subway.

Named after Christopher Columbus Monument was built in 1892 as a contribution to New York's Memorial of the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America. The monument, called Columna rostrata, was financed from funds who put forward an Italian newspaper ( Il Progresso ). The statue consists of a marble statue, which stands on an approximately 20 -meter-high granite column. The column is decorated with bronze rostra, which are the ships Columbus, Niña, Pinta, and Santa María. The foot is an angel holding a globe. The monument represents the official measurement point, all distances are calculated from and to New York City from where.

Renovation of the square was completed in 2005 and included the addition of a water fountain, wooden benches and plantings around the monument. The interior space measures approximately 3,330 m², the outer space of nearly 14,000 m².

Located along the west side of Columbus Circle 's Time Warner Center, the world headquarters of Time Warner Group is located. The complex also houses the New York headquarters of the news channel CNN. Located along the north side is the Trump International Hotel and Tower.
