Columbus is a city in the center of the U.S. state of Indiana and is about 60 km south of the state capital Indianapolis. It is part of Bartholomew County and is the County Seat. The city has an area of 68.3 km ² and 39,059 inhabitants ( 2000).

Economy and infrastructure

Columbus is the headquarters of Cummins, the main employer in the region. U.S. Highway 31 crosses the city in a north-south direction. Almost parallel runs west of downtown on Interstate 65 both connect with the cities of Columbus Indianapolis and Louisville.
