Columbus Owls

The Columbus Owls were an American ice hockey franchise in the International Hockey League from Columbus, Ohio.

History

The California Golden Seals of the National Hockey League in 1973 sold their farm team from the International Hockey League, the Columbus Golden Seals, whereupon the franchise by its new owners was named Columbus Owls. In the first two years of existence, the Columbus Owls reached the second place in the South Division, respectively. Then they finished twice the play time on the fourth and last place thus their division, yet qualified in the 1976/77 season for the playoffs for the Turner Cup, where they were eliminated, however, already in the first round. In all the four years Moe Bartoli was coach of the Owls. Following the 1976/77 season the franchise to Dayton, Ohio, was laid, where it subsequently participated under the name Dayton Owls in the game operation of the IHL.
