Columbus Stars

The Columbus Stars were an American ice hockey team from Columbus, Ohio. The team played in the 2003/04 season in the United Hockey League.

History

The team was founded in 2003 as a franchise of the United Hockey League. Although the Columbus Stars with 19 wins had a positive balance at 15 defeats, they had already after 34 match days in their inaugural season, the 2003/04 season, set the play mode for financial reasons. With an audience average of only 973, the team was well below the league -wide average of 3,000 spectators per game. This was mainly due to the overwhelming competition by the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League. Added to this was the fact that the Ohio Expo Center Coliseum with a capacity 5,676 seats costing too much rent.
