Comair South Africa

Comair Limited is a South African company, which operates two airlines. Besides its own low-cost airline Kulula Comair is a British Airways franchisee for the region.

History

Comair was as a separate airline on 14 July 1946 as a Commercial Air Service AC Joubert, J.M.S. Martin, L. Zimmerman and J. D. Human, who were active during the Second World War in the South African Air Force, was founded. Originally, the service between the Rand Airport in Johannesburg and Durban in 1948, for which a Cessna 195 was used.

The airline has recorded in the first decades of its existence, a rapid growth in 1992 and served some of the main routes in South Africa. They eventually took several Boeing 737-200. In addition to the national goals she flew to destinations in Southern Africa as well as Gaborone and Harare.

The franchise agreement with British Airways was signed in 1995, since 2000, British Airways holds a minority stake of 18 percent to Comair. 30 percent of the company owned by the management, five percent are owned by employees. 38 percent are held by institutional and retail investors. The company is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. At the beginning of the partnership, the company flew as British Airways Comair, then British Airways Regional and finally since the early 2000s under the name of British Airways.

In 2001, Comair, the low cost airline Kulula, which has since been expanded in a targeted and was supplemented by additional services such as car hire and accommodation along the lines of easyJet.

Comair has reported in the financial year 2009/2010 the 65th consecutive year a profit. Revenue totaled 3.009 billion Rand, the profit at 124 million rand.
