Comair was an American regional airline based in Boone County and a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines. She led for these regional and feeder flights by under the umbrella brand of Delta Connection. On September 29, 2012, the flight has ceased operations.

History

The airline was founded in 1977 by David Mueller and his father Raymond in Cincinnati and began the air service with three Piper PA -31. 1981, the company was floated on the stock market, to finance the growth. Part of the Delta Connection brand it was in 1984. Delta Air Lines bought 1986 20 % of Comair 1999 and took over all the shares for more than two billion U.S. dollars.

2001 were the pilots of Comair in a strike, thus laying the operation for 89 days still. Christmas 2004 had Comair due to a computer error deleting all 1160 flights, 30,000 passengers were affected.

In 2005, the parent company Delta Air Lines Comair moved temporarily with under the protection of Chapter 11 bankruptcy paragraph

In July 2012, Delta announced that Comair due to a restructuring stops operating within the group in late September 2012 and will be dissolved. Already in previous years, nearly 100 aircraft were retired without replacement successively. This was mainly due to the fact that Delta wanted to aircraft to its fleet with 50 seats or less strongly decrease. The remaining aircraft of Comair, which have more than 50 seats, were incorporated into the mainline Delta Airlines.

Objectives

Comair flew under the brand name Delta Connection for Delta Air Lines to many destinations in the United States, Canada and the Bahamas. In addition to New York and Cincinnati Greensboro and Orlando were other important hubs.

Incidents

  • On January 9, 1997 Comair Flight 3272 crashed during the approach to the airport from Detroit. The pilots of the machine Embraer EMB 120 lost control after it had accumulated on the wings of rime. None of the 29 people on board survived the crash.
  • In crash of Delta Air Lines flight 5191 on August 27, 2006, 49 people were killed. The Bombardier CRJ100 operated by Comair crashed after takeoff at 06:00 clock in local time in Lexington in a forest and burned out. She was on her way to Atlanta. A cause of busy police officer could just pull the co-pilot from the cockpit, which was the only survivor of the crash.   • On 11 April 2011 a takeoff collided ready Airbus A380 of Air France with a Bombardier CRJ700 Comair. The accident occurred against 20 clock at the New York - John F. Kennedy Airport. The A380 with the serial number MSN049 and registration F- HPJD met with the left wing tip, the T-tail of the 62 passengers occupied, standing regional jets and tore this force by about 90 degrees around. Then stopped the Airbus. Large, external damage to both aircraft were not immediately visible. According to media reports, no occupants were injured. Both aircraft were taken after the accident for the purpose of an accurate inspection of the service.
