Comarca Emberá-Wounaan

Emberá - Wounaan ( often referred to simply as Emberá ) is an indigenous autonomous territory in Panama.

The territory is inhabited by the ethnic groups of the Embera and the Wounaan. It was founded by the Panamanian government by Act No. 22 in 1983 from parts of the province of Darién. From this province, the territory is almost completely enclosed. The only other border has it with the equally indigenous autonomous territory of Kuna Yala. The capital of Emberá - Wounaan is Cirilo Guainora.

Administratively, the territory has become the de facto status of a province, but is referred to as the Comarca. Are managed both the Emberá and the Wounaan of local traditional caciques and official - recognized by the Panamanian government - elected representatives.
