Comares

Comares is a Spanish municipality in the province of Málaga in Andalusia. It is located 39 km north-east of Málaga on 703 meters altitude in the Axarquia, the easternmost part of the province of Malaga. Comares is a typical white village with prärömischer history. The Moorish epoch of Comares ended in 1487, when the village, which was then due to its strategic location important point of defense, fell to the Christians. Comares is perched on a rocky promontory and offers panoramic views to the coast. In addition to a parish church, there is a restored olive mill ( now a hotel) and a fort. Culturally Comares is known for the care of verdial, an early form of flamenco, which is celebrated with guitars, violin, tambourine, dancers and singers to the fiestas.
