Combined diesel and diesel

A CODAD drive ( for Combined Diesel and Diesel) is a marine propulsion concept in which two different diesel motors are connected to the drive shaft (s). The advantage of this drive system is similar to the related COGAG drive, low fuel consumption, the disadvantage of the complicated gear assembly.

COGAG drives are used in particular in yacht building. The first warships who received this system were, in the 1970s, the MEKO -140 ships of the Turkish Navy. The system proved to be maintenance-intensive.
