Combino Supra

Avenio is the name of a low-floor tram vehicle in modular design of Siemens Mobility. It was first presented at the trade fair UITP in Vienna in 2009 as "the longest tram in the world ".

When Avenio is a further development of the Combino family in stainless steel instead of aluminum construction and now with a chassis from any module, ie without floating center parts. The vehicles of the series Combino Plus Budapest tram and Metro Sul do Tejo ( Almada, Portugal) already correspond to the conception of the Avenios.

The precursor Combino was struggling due to a design fault with margins in several cities, as a result, the vehicles had to be built partly new. For Siemens, which meant in addition to the financial loss, especially a high loss of image, which the new design is to make up for, among others, with the new name " Avenio ".

In presenting the Avenio in 2009, was informed that he is expected to first built as an eight- vehicle length of 72 meters for Tel Aviv. An order has been issued but not yet, because the consortium has lost his license to build the tram now back.

The first order of the type comes from The Hague. In November 2011 it was announced that the HTM, the operator of the tram The Hague, 40 pieces ordered four-part Avenios. The vehicles will be 35 m long and 2.55 m wide, while offering 70 seats and 168 standing places. The contract value amounts to over 100 million euros, including driver training and spare parts. An option for a further 40 pieces is possible. The vehicles will be built at the Siemens plant in Simmering, the cabins are produced in Graz.

On 30 July 2012, Siemens announced the appointment of a turnkey tram system by the Qatar Foundation. In the Qatari capital Doha should operate on a completely catenary-free route from autumn 2015 19 trams of type Avenio.

On September 28, 2012, the Munich Transport Company ( MVG ) announced the appointment of eight vehicles for the tram Munich known to be 6 of them already delivered by the end of 2013. This order will be delivered first. In the night from 28 to 29 October 2013, the first vehicle was delivered to the depot, the MVG on Einstein Street.
