Combustion engine

The internal combustion engine is a heat engine (thermal fluid energy machine ) that performs mechanical work by internal combustion of fuel. Further generalizations are fluid energy machine and engine. Unlike, for instance to the steam engine and the hot-air engine can find all work processes instead of in a work area, the working cylinder. This chemical energy is converted from a fuel -air mixture above the temperature of the working gas in pressure ( force) and extension (path ) and thus into mechanical energy ( force times distance ).

There are two main types of internal combustion engines:

Flow machine ( turbomachine )

  • Gas turbine
  • Jet engine

The four steps are carried out continuously at turbo machines, the pressure ratios are constant. The first-stage turbine blades to determine the maximum possible temperature of the combustion gases.

In internal combustion engines, these four work cycles run from sequentially. Because of the cyclical combustion much higher peak temperatures and thus higher efficiencies can be achieved than in turbomachines.
