Come Taste the Band (English for "Come, taste the band" ) is the tenth studio album by the English hard rock band Deep Purple, which was released in October 1975. The album entered the band's history as a co-production of so-called Deep Purple Mark IV Instrumentation and his long- time producer Martin Birch.

After the departure of Ritchie Blackmore Tommy Bolin took the guitar in Deep Purple. Come Taste the Band is thus the only Deep Purple studio album on which Bolin is heard.

Background

Contrary to the note on the album cover all of the songs were not recorded between 3 August and 1 September 1975 in the Musicland Studios in Munich. Because even in the period of June / July 1975, the band with Tommy Bolin had met in the Pirate Sound halls in Los Angeles for jam sessions. In parallel premises of the halls at the same time rehearsing Ritchie Blackmore with his new band Rainbow. He offered enough money to landlords to have the halls for himself and his band alone available. And although large parts of the song material from Come Taste the band are just originated in the Pirate sound - halls, the group avoided this information on the cover, but referred to the later studio recordings in Munich.

After a promotional tour for Come Taste the Band Hughes and Bolin triggered serious drug problems and the different musical ideas of the members on the cohesion of the already arrived in inner turmoil band. Lord and Paice therefore dissolved in March 1976 on the band after their last concert in Liverpool. It was only in 1984 led the album Perfect Strangers a reunion of Deep Purple Mark II line-up ( her second time band instrumentation).

Music style

The album includes a richer musical selection than previous albums of the band. In addition to driving hard rock songs like "Comin 'Home " includes Come Taste the Band many funky and soulful influences. These were based on the influence of bassist Glenn Hughes, Deep Purple's new guitarist Tommy Bolin. This is based on the musical direction for the songs "I Need Love", "dealer" or " You Keep on Moving " determine. The song " Love Child " is a fusion of Purples former stylistic devices. The exit Blackmores and the entry of Bolin brought the band to a " musical freer waters ".
