Coming of Age Day

The Seijin no Hi (Japanese成人の日) is a public holiday in Japan. On the second Monday in January, the new full- year olds are celebrated. The age of majority is achieved in accordance with § 4 of the Japanese Civil Code with the age of 20.

For young people who have their 20th birthday between April 2 and April 1 of last of the current year, is to this day a ceremony that Seijin shiki (成人 式), held at the responsibility they be noted that awaits them in their future life. It usually keep the city's mayor and other office holders a speech.

For the ceremony, the Japanese women dress with very beautiful and expensive traditional kimonos, while the men these days appears almost exclusively in black suits. Only sporadically seen kimonos here.

The Seijin no Hi was officially introduced in 1948.
