Comitini

Comitini is a municipality in the province of Agrigento in the Italian region Sicily.

Location and data

Comitini is located 16 km north of Agrigento. Here live 952 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) on an area of ​​21 km ². Main occupation is agriculture, here olives, almonds, citrus fruits and wine are grown. There are more jobs in a plant for rock salt.

The neighboring communities of Comitini are Aragona Favara and grotto.

History

The community was founded in the late 15th century by Gastone di Bellacera. 1627 was the place to Gravini fief of the family. In the 19th century it grew in importance by the sulfur mines.
