Commercial Bank of Ethiopia

The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE, Amharic የኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ ya - Ītyōṗṗyā Nəgədə Bank, German " Ethiopian Commercial Bank") is the largest bank in Ethiopia, with a market share of 74.1 percent ( June 2004). The state-owned financial institution has 453 branches (November 2011), spread across the major cities of the country, and also a branch in neighboring Djibouti.

History

The Ethiopian government dismantled in 1963, which was founded in 1943 Ethiopian State Bank in the Ethiopian National Bank, the Central Bank and the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. To combine the existing banks into a single, the then socialist government built 1980, Addis Bank in the CBE. The Addis Bank again went through the merger of nationalized Addis Ababa Bank and the Ethiopian daughters of the Banco di Roma and Banco di Napoli forth by the government. At the time, the Addis Ababa Bank had 26 branches.

In 1994 the bank was reorganized by the government and reopened. Recently, the Institute was restructured again by the government, and there was a contract entered into with The Royal Bank of Scotland with the intention of management consulting.
