Commercial National Bank (Washington, D.C.)

The Commercial National Bank in Washington, D.C. is located in downtown historic high house, that was until 1933 the headquarters of the same bank. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

The American architect Waddy Butler Wood (1869-1944) in 1917 designed the new headquarters of the bank founded in 1904. This was in the 1920s, the four largest banks in the city. In the building there were also offices of the Western Union. The building is an early example of the development of the American high-rise architecture towards a highly simplified classicism. In particular, the cornice on the exterior refers to the architectural history bonds; inside high columns dominate the three-story space of the main hall. The facade is articulated with a flattened entrance, a paneled with unadorned limestone slabs middle part and a lavish upper degree in three parts.
