Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys

The Commission scolaire Marguerite - Bourgeoys ( CSMB ) is a public school board in the Canadian province of Québec. She is responsible for the organization of French-language school teaching in the western administrative region of Montreal. It is named Marguerite Bourgeoys, who had founded in 1658 the first school of Montreal.

Organization

On 1 July 1998, the course of secular education reform in Quebec establishing the CSMB. With this reform, the hitherto separate denominational school boards were dissolved and replaced by new ones, which are defined by linguistic and geographical criteria.

The CSMB operates 61 elementary schools, 12 secondary schools, two special schools, six professional schools and four adult education institutions. 7,500 employees ( 3,800 teachers) serve about 49,000 students, of which 39,400 in the mandatory levels. 23 school boards who are elected by the residents of assisted area, supervise the school board, with nine councilors hold executive functions.
