Commodore 1551

The VC 1551 ( development name SFS -481 ) is a 5 ¼ -inch floppy disk drive for the 264er home computer series ( C16, C116, Plus / 4 ) of Commodore. She arrived in 1984 on the market.

The 1551 is quite different from the other models of VC15xx series. The board is designed completely different and the drive mechanism is less sensitive than the VC1541. But most striking is the connection: From the Floppy parallel cable leads to a permanently associated junction box, which is plugged directly into the module port on the computer. This concept has been referred to as TCBM bus. Since the modulus of the Port 264er was different, could the 1551 not be used on other Commodore computers such as the VIC-20, C64, and C128.

Intern worked the 1551 with the usual Commodore DOS as the operating system. Compared to the serial CBM bus transfer speed was increased approximately by a factor of 4, for parallel data transfer, a modest value.
