Common-channel signaling

Common channel signaling ( ZKZ ) or Common Channel Signaling (CCS ) refers to signaling processes that have separate signaling channels. The signaling information required for a call to be transferred here separated from the voice channel has its own channels.

CCS signaling methods are now commonly used in telephone networks, both for ISDN telephones (D channel ) and between exchanges. Known CCS signaling methods are Signalling System No.. 7 (SS7 ), and Digital Subscriber System No. 1 ( DSS1).

Since a separate transmission channel for signaling information is available, even relatively complex functions and services can be realized hereby.
