CommutAir

CommutAir is an American regional airline based in South Burlington, Vermont and the main base in Cleveland, Ohio. She flies under the name United Express for United Airlines.

History

CommutAir was founded in 1989 by Antony von Elbe, John Sullivan and Jim Drollette in Plattsburgh. To this end, they took over the successful Clinton Aero, based in Plattsburgh and part of Brockway Airline Division. On 1 August 1989 CommutAir started operations. She was initially a code-share agreement with U.S. Airways and flew with two Beech 1900D as U.S. Airways Express, but switched in 2000 to Continental Airlines, after U.S. Airways did not renew the contract. In July 2001, the operations were shut down by half to reorganize society. In early 2002 CommutAir began again with a "micro- hub" in Albany, New York. At the height of 2003-2004 15 cities was served in the northeastern United States and Canada from the hub. From Boston 8 cities were served. The routes were not profitable and the lines were set.

In January 2003, a new agreement between CommutAir and Continental Airlines was closed and the base was relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. On 16 March 2003, the operation started with flights to Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Elmira, New York and until August 2003 expanded to 12 cities.

On 30 September 2007, the CommutAir home base at Plattsburgh International Airport was closed and moved to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

On October 1, 2010, UAL Corporation and Continental Airlines merged to form the United Continental Holdings. The merger was also the regional partner of Continental Airlines, Continental Connection, United Express partner. This CommutAir now is a partner of United Express.

As of August 2011 CommutAir operated in scheduled service 23 cities, which are each connected to both or one of the two hubs CommutAir Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport
