Compartment (anatomy)
A muscle compartment ( compartment ) is a group of muscles that is bounded by a fascia. Muscle compartments are found for example in the extremities, where each muscle are associated with a similar function to a muscle compartment.
In your lower legs, for example, four muscle compartments:
- The superficial flexor
- The deep flexor
- The Peronaeusgruppe
- The Extensorengruppe
The compartment syndrome is a disorder of the muscles, nerves and vessels in a common compartment.
