Under Hoffmann drops (1870: Hoffmann spirit, named after its inventor Friedrich Hoffmann) or ether alcohol (fachsprachlich alcohol aethereus, rare spirits Aetheris called ) means a vessel intended for medical use mixture of three parts ethanol and one part diethyl ether.
