Comps-sur-Artuby

Comps- sur -Artuby is a commune of 313 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Var department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Comps- sur -Artuby located 34 kilometers north of Draguignan on the D955 towards Castellane in the Regional Natural Park Verdon on a hill above the Artuby, a river that winds through a deep gorge and finally south-east from La Palud- sur -Verdon in Verdon flows.

History

Through archaeological evidence we know that the area around Comps- sur -Artuby was already inhabited in the Chalcolithic and Iron Age.

In the sources of the 11th century the place appears under the name in Cumbis. The rule about the place was for the house Pontevès due to a donation of Queen Joanna I of Anjou in part. In the 13th century there was a Commandery of the Knights in Comps- sur -Artuby, Charles of Durazzo besieged and captured. The population had to flee and founded several villages in the area.

Attractions
