Computer-mediated communication

The term network -based communication includes methods by means of which people communicate over computer networks.

The network-based communication tools include Internet forums, e -mail and mailing lists, chat and instant messaging, newsgroups, groupware and video conferencing. Platforms combine several of these tools and are used particularly in the B2B sector.

In 2000, almost 50 % of Internet users used in Germany E -mail ( 46.2 %). Forums or newsgroups (5.4%) and Chat ( 4.4% ) are used, however, of much less people.

The communicative possibilities of new media are at the same time its most important features. In this communication spatial and temporal restrictions are lifted. This creates new conditions, according to some authors almost a new company ( Cyber ​​Society), which represent a new research field in terms of knowledge and group communication.
