CONCACAF U17 Championship

The CONCACAF U -17 Championship (English CONCACAF Men's Under -17 Championship ) is a football competition between the best teams in North and Central America and the Caribbean for male soccer players under 17 years. In addition, the tournament will be used to qualify for the U-17 World Cup.

For the first time, it still took place in 1983 as a U-16 competition. The format of the tournament has changed over the years several times. From 1991, the competition was the FIFA adjusted age limits and played as U-17 tournament. In the years 1999 to 2007, the tournament was only used as a qualifier for the U- 20 World Cup and was thus discharged their FIFA U- 17 World Cup under the name. Since 2009, the tournament is named CONCACAF U -17 Championship and took place with 8 teams should identify the participants for the semi-finals in two groups of four. However, it has played no tournament winner due to the influenza pandemic in 2009, so it has remained with the qualification already fixed each group winners and runners for the U -17 World Cup. In the playout first time in 2011 to take part 12 teams in four groups of three in the tournament.

Qualification for U- 17 World Cup

The tournament was mainly for World Cup qualifiers in 1999. The format has been changed and maintained in this form until 2007. The best eight teams North and Central America and the Caribbean were divided into two groups of four teams. In each case, two separate tournaments were held in one of the participating countries, the two group winners and possibly also the winner of the play-offs between the two runners qualified for the U-17 World Cup.

CONCACAF U -17 Championship

With the tournament in 2009, the mode has been changed again, to a single tournament, in which all four semi-finalists qualify for the U- 17 World Cup.
