CONCACAF Under-20 Championship

The CONCACAF U- 20 Championship (English CONCACAF Men's Under -20 Championship ) is a football competition between the best teams in North and Central America and the Caribbean for male soccer players under 20. In addition, the tournament will be used to qualify for the U-20 World Cup.

Is organized the championship of the CONCACAF. It was first held in 1962, initially took place at irregular intervals, usually every two years later. The format of the tournament has been amended several times over the years, also varied the designation. Until 1997 it was called the CONCACAF Youth Tournament ( CONCACAF Youth Tournament ). In the years 1998 to 2007, the tournament was only used as a qualifier for the U- 20 World Cup and was thus discharged their FIFA U- 20 World Cup under the name. Since 2009, the tournament is named CONCACAF U- 20 Championship and took place with 8 teams that determined in two groups of four participants for the semi-finals. Since the playout 2011 12 teams take part in four groups of three in the tournament.

Qualification for U- 20 World Cup

The format of the tournament was amended in 1998 and maintained in this form until 2007. The best eight teams North and Central America and the Caribbean were divided into two groups of four teams. In each case, two separate tournaments were held in one of the participating countries, the top two teams in each group qualified for the U-20 World Cup.

CONCACAF U- 20 Championship

With the tournament in 2009, the mode has been changed again, to a single tournament, in which all four semi-finalists qualify for the U- 20 World Cup.
