Concentration polarization

The term refers to concentration polarization in the filter and membrane technology, the formation of a boundary layer at the membrane during the filtration process. This concentration gradient is formed of macromolecules which can not pass through the membrane. Occurs during a filtration concentration polarization, then this becomes apparent by a reduced transmembrane flow (flux ). This effect is reversible - the membrane is washed, the original flux can be restored almost. A cross-flow ( cross-flow filtration ) is applied to the membrane, thus minimizing the concentration polarization.
