Conceptualism

Conceptualism (Latin conceptus: General term ) Refers to medieval philosophy emanating from William of Ockham younger nominalism. The term was coined by a part of the Catholic and academic historians to distinguish the younger from the older nominalism. This accomplished with the introduction of the concept of conceptualism separation between the different currents of nominalism is controversial.

Conceptualism represented in the debates within the medieval philosophy ( universals ) the newer position ( "via moderna " ): Only individual things ( possible carriers of proper names) are real. These real but transitory individual things (such as Bernard of Cluny underlined ) are generalized with terms and detained.

The " concept " or " universals ", however, put the view that only the ideas are really, they come in individual things if need be to appearance. This older position ( "via antiqua " ) was settled primarily by Platonists, in moderate form by Aristotelians.
