Conchita Cintrón

Consuelo Cintrón Verrill, also known as Conchita Cintrón, La Diosa Rubia (Eng. The blonde goddess ) or La Diosa de Oro ( The Golden Goddess dt ) ( born August 9, 1922 in Antofagasta, † February 17, 2009 in Lisbon ), was a Peruvian- Portuguese bullfighter and probably the most famous bullfighter of all time.

Life

The father of Conchita Cintrón was the Puerto Rican officer Francisco Cintrón Ramos, the second Puerto Rican graduate who graduated from the Military Academy at West Point. Her mother, Loyola Verril, was an American of Irish extraction. Conchita grew up in Lima, where he received the Peruvian citizenship.

In the local riding school of Ruy de Camara they proved to be gifted student. De Camara then she taught in the art of bullfighting on horseback. In 1936, she played on the plaza de Acho in Lima her first public bullfighting. Since she was not yet fourteen years of age, she was not allowed to kill the bull itself. The Mexican Chucho Solarzano taught bullfighting on foot. In June 1939, she made her debut in Mexico. In a short time she became famous in Mexico and throughout Latin America. By 1943, she performed on 211 corridas, together with the famous toreros that time: Armillita Chico, Luis Silverio Pérez and Procuna. The latter invented the nickname under which she would become famous: La Diosa Rubia ( Blonde Goddess). In those years, they killed 401 bulls.

Under the care of the famous toreros Lalanda Marcial, who also Antonio Ordóñez and the brothers Manolo and Pepe Luis Vázquez assisted in those years, she began her career in 1945 in Europe. On April 23, she appeared in Seville in the Arena Real Maestranza. In Franco's Spain women was permitted only on horseback bullfighting.

In May 1945, followed by an appearance in the main arena of Madrid, Plaza de Las Ventas. On August 3, 1947 she had her first appearance in France in the Arena of Bayonne. There followed, among other appearances in Paris and Toulouse.

Your career as a bullfighter, she finished in October 1950 in Jaén. She married the Portuguese entrepreneurs Francisco de Castelo Branco, sat down with him in Lisbon, and retired into private life. The marriage produced many children were born.

Conchita Cintrón wrote an autobiography entitled Recuerdos ( Memories ). She died on 17 February 2009 as a result of cardiac arrest.
