Concordat of Bologna

The Concordat of Bologna is an agreement between the French king Francis I and Pope Leo X.. The Concordat was signed in Bologna on 19 December 1516.

Franz recognized it as to the superiority of the Pope (via the Councils ) and the annates ( charges for transmission of a ministry ). For this he was given the right to occupy the important positions in the French church without interference of the Pope. The French Church was thus organizationally subordinate to the king. He took advantage of this in order to involve them in the management of the French state.

Thus, the forced sale of indulgences by the Pope in France was far less active than in Germany, where the church was directly subordinate to the Pope.

On the other hand, the French King had no interest in the Reformation and opposed this in France.
