Condesa

The Colonia Condesa (short: Condesa ) is a 1902 with borrowings from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco -built neighborhood in the Delegación Cuauhtémoc in Mexico City.

History

The area on which the district was built originally belonged in the first half of the 17th century, the Doña María de las Mercedes Enríquez de la Luna del Mazo, in turn, Countess of Miravalle (Spanish: Condesa, dt: " Countess ", hence the place name ), the Villa was due to corner Alfonso Reyes and Circuito Interior on the western edge of the district. Today it houses the Russian Embassy. Colonia Condesa is regarded as a popular residential area for politicians, diplomats and the wealthy.

Infrastructure

In the immediate vicinity of the Parque de Chapultepec and the historic center of Mexico City lie. There are two market halls and several open street markets and a French private university on the grounds of the former German School in Mexico ( Universidad La Salle ), a German bookstore, the Friedrich- Ebert- Stiftung (FES), the Heinrich- Böll -Stiftung (HBS ) and the Mexican Goethe -Institut.

Traffic

Condesa is via the Metro stations Chapultepec, Jaunacatlan, Patriotismo, Seville, Insurgentes, Chilpancingo and General Hospital as well as with buses over the Avenida de los Insurgentes accessible.

The numerous houses in Art Deco - style, functionalist and avant-garde 20th-century building. So here is the " Edificio Condesa " in French neo-classical architectural style, which is home to several local artists and the Edificio Basurto (built 1939-1942 by Francisco Serrano ). Destroyed by the 1985 earthquake, it has been restored and rebuilt.
