Condrieu

Condrieu is a commune with 3828 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Rhône, Rhône- Alpes. It lies on the right bank of the Rhône River, about 11 km south of the town of Vienne, and 44 km south of the city of Lyon.

Condrieu, there are, according to some historians since the 3rd century BC Pliny the Elder reported by existing viticulture in the region.

Viticulture in Condrieu

Since 1940, Condrieu has the status of an Appellation d' Origine. There white wine is made ​​exclusively from the Viognier grape, which grows on soils with granite base. The 110 hectares of certified vineyards are handled by about 90 growers and distributed among the municipalities Condrieu, Chavanay, Malleval, Saint -Michel- sur -Rhone, Saint- Pierre -de- Boeuf, Vérin and Limony that within a radius of 15 km lie. The yield is limited to 37 hl / ha per year on average 4,100 hectoliters of wine are produced and marketed.

The wines can be aromatic, with hints of violet, peach or apricot and should be drunk young. Recently, attempts are made with the expansion in barriques and with late harvests.
