Condrusi

The Condruser ( condrusi ) were a Celtic people, who belonged to the group of Celtic- Germanic mixed cultures in cisrhenanischen ( left bank ) Middle Rhine area. Except Caesar De Bello Gallico is mentioned in ancient sources from only the administrative unit pagus Condrustris the Augustan administrative order known.

Name

There is a presumption that the landscape Condroz name that identifies the landscape in the Belgian provinces of Namur and Liège, is derived from Caesar's tribal name Condrusi. In contrast, the assumption that the Mont Falhize near the lying right in Condroz Belgian Huyein was central town of probably Germanic Aduatuci. The area was eventually selected by the Aduatukern after Caesar between about 100 BC and 60 BC, " according to general council concluded " as a settled area. Perhaps the Condruser took over the land of Aduatuci after their participation in the defeated revolution of Ambiorix end 54/Anfang 53 BC

History

For the first time called the Condruser in the context of the war against the Belgae by Caesar in 57 BC. They form about 280,000 heads strong Belgian contingent, together with the Eburons, Caerosern and Paemanern a 40,000 -strong contingent. Caesar calls the four strains lump sum Germans. In the year 56 BC Caesar called the Condruser together with the Eburons as clients of Treverians.

After De bello Gallico, VI 32 is the tribal area of Condruser - similar to that of Segner - between the Eburons and Treviri. The passage is also provided interesting than the Condruser come here to speak for themselves. Caesar tells that their messengers distanced themselves from the previous expedition of Eburones king Ambiorix. None of the left bank of the Germanic tribes did with the Eburons common cause. Caesar was heard prisoners who confirmed this information, and ordered the Condrusern future extradite any eburonische prisoners; then he would not devastate their territory in the future.

Caesar mentioned by the Condrusern nothing; probably remained the tribe in its urban areas and mingled with the remains of Aduatuci and Eburons as well as the after 50 BC in the area engaging, rechtsrheinischen German tribe of Tungerer.
