Conecuh County, Alabama

The Conecuh County is a county located in the state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Evergreen.

Geography

The County is located in southern Alabama, is about 50 miles from Florida's Northern border and has an area of ​​2208 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Butler County, Covington County, Escambia County and Monroe County.

History

Conecuh County was formed on February 13, 1818 from parts of Monroe County. The name comes from the dialect of Mucogee Indians. From 1818 to 1868 Sparta was the county seat.

According to the census of 2000, there were 14,089 people in Conecuh County. Of these, 79 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 5,792 households and 3,938 families.
