Coney Island Polar Bear Club
Founded in 1903 Coney Iceland Polar Bear Club is the oldest Eisschwimmverein in the United States. Every Sunday from October to April its members swim in the Atlantic off Coney Iceland. At the annual New Year swim take part each year swimmers from across the U.S. (2005: 300 participants, 6000 spectators ).
The club was known recently by contributing to global warming in the The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
