Confessions (Liza-Minnelli-Album)

Occupation

Liza Minnelli

Confessions is the eleventh studio album by Liza Minnelli. It was released on 21 September 2010.

Background

Liza Minnelli, who had emerged mainly as an interpreter of songs and musical Popstandards with great orchestral accompaniment, specialized in this album on the ballad- processing of jazz standards by several composers and songwriters of the Great American Songbook. The instrumental accompaniment was here this time by the pianist Billy Stritch, who together work with Minnelli for many years; in parts also played a rhythm section to do so.

Was Referred to the album under the aspect that Minnelli show as a sensitive singer with a focus on the intentions of the individual songs. The statements of the songwriter should be primary. Minnelli distanced himself from doing their energetic, dynamic interpretation manner. They even called the rehearsed her songs as their favorite and most intimate, whom she had previously sung only privately in front of friends and acquaintances.

Reception

The critics complained mostly Minnelli's fragile voice, the tunes would partially no longer appropriate. It was also the recording of two songs I Got Lost in His Arms and Close Your Eyes, which was already done for her studio album Gently (1996 ), rated as not very original or creative. However, as the music critic John Bush noted, Minnelli sit across the negative voices and get despite their vocal weaknesses everything out of himself, without taking itself absolutely seriously.
