Confiserie Sprüngli

History

Confiserie Sprüngli AG was founded in 1836 by David Sprüngli and his son Rudolf Sprüngli -Ammann at the market street in Zurich instead of " pastry bird " as Confiserie Sprüngli & Son. In 1845 they started to produce chocolate in their bakery. Business was so good that the premises soon became too small. So moved Sprüngli in 1859 in the newly-built house in the low courts of the parade square at the Bahnhofstrasse.

Sprüngli was convinced, in fact, the new railway station of the city, which was then planned came to be at the parade ground and this good situation, he wanted to use. However, it was different: the voters decided to build instead of frogs ditch the Bahnhofstrasse, which in 1877 extended to the lake after the razing of the scratch tower and thus became a prime business location. Particularly successful was the new Sprüngli the so-called " refreshment room ". Who counted in Zurich to society, met up in the afternoon for coffee and cake. The space could also be rented for events.

1892 parted ways the Confiserie Sprüngli and Lindt & Sprüngli chocolate factory, both of which were carried on as separate businesses. 1909/1910 fiscal house on the parade square was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style. 1931, the building was rebuilt again and renovated.
