Confluency

When confluence is called the mostly complete coverage of the surface of a culture vessel with adherent ( adherent ) cells. The confluence turns out different from cell line to cell line.

The cells are located at the confluence in very close cell -cell contact, so that no surface is freely available as a substrate. Due to the contact inhibition most cells cease to divide.

In a continuous cell culture of adherent cell lines separating and implementation should the cells ( splitting german, ,, passage, subculture ', ugs, split ' ) are carried out before the full confluence was reached, the slowdown produced by the cell contact inhibition of cell division rate to be avoided.
